FAQ's

Q: I don’t have any experience with boats will I still be able to hire a boat?
A: Yes. The pontoon boat is surprisingly easy to operate and very similar to a car. The modern style Tinny’s are very stable and handle extremely well, and the electric start 4 stroke
motors are a breeze to use. However, the Tinny’s do require a boat license to operate. One of our qualified staff members will explain the operations of the boat to you, from bow to stern before you leave. After your practical instruction you’ll be on your way with confidence and peace of mind.

Q: Do I need a boat license?
A: No. A full car driver’s license is all that is required to operate the Pontoon boat. The hirer must be over the age of 21 years of age. License must be current and valid. However, the Tinnies and Ski Boat do require a boat license to operate.

A: Base contact is available 24 hours a day by mobile phone, so don’t worry we’re here to assist or answer any questions you might have.

Q: What should I bring?
A:
All you need to bring is your food, drinks, weather appropriate clothing, sunscreen, sunglasses (for water glare) and mobile phone for emergency contact. But feel free to bring along anything that will make your boat trip comfortable and enjoyable.

Q: Do I have to wear a PFD in the boat?

A: Due to the size of the Pontoon boat adults are not required to wears PFD’s, however, children under 12 must wear a PFD at all times.
A PFD must be worn by every occupant in the Tinny’s and Ski Boat at all times.

Q: Is the river fresh water?
A: Yes, it’s fresh and yes, it is good to swim in, however caution should always be taken.
There are no sharks or crocodiles, and diving is not recommended. Wearing PFD’s are recommended for adults and children.

A: Murray Cod, Callop, Redfin and Carp as well as Yabbies.

A: You do not require a recreational fishing license in SA but must abide by all current bag
limits, size limits and fishing seasons. If you venture in NSW, you will require a license.

Q: How fast do the boats go?
A: The Tinnies and Ski Boat can reach speeds of 40kph. (20 knots).  The pontoon boat can reach speeds of 20kph (10 Knots).

Q: What is there to see along the way?

A: For those seeking a relaxing and peaceful experience you will be amazed at the majestic
scenery of ancient cliffs, the river mists rising in the morning, the incredible array of bird life,
and the breath-taking expanse of stars in the night skies!
Moore your boat right in the center of Renmark town and explore what is on offer and visit
our beautiful Visitor Information Centre to find out more.

Q: How large is the ice box on the pontoon boat?
A: Approximately a 100-litre esky.

Q: What is included in the hire?
A: All hires come with safety gear required for the specific boat which we will run through during the pre-hire safety briefing.

Q: Do the hires include fuel?
A: The Tinny hires come with a tank of fuel (20L). Additional fuel can be requested and paid for on return if used. We recommend an extra 5L to get to Wilkadene and back from Renmark. The Pontoon Boat fuel is also included in the Hire. The boat will use approx. 80L to get to Wilkadene from Renmark so the RPM restrictions MUST be adhered to or you may run out of fuel. Call out fees do apply. Golden Rule – The faster you go the more fuel it will use!
The Ski Boat hire does not include fuel.  We will supply you with 2 tanks of fuel which can be returned full or paid for at the end of the hire.

Q: Can we drive our boat to the Woolshed Brewery?

A: Yes, you sure can. The brewery is a 2 and a half-hour drive by Pontoon Boat or just over an hour by Tinny (approximately 50kms) each way! If you are planning the trip in ‘Marge the Barge’ you will require a full days hire. Their microbrewery has great beer, wine and soft drink available (please, no BYO). You can also select a cheese platter from their local products that they have on offer and on weekends and during special times they may have a food van and live music. Check their Facebook page for details regarding what’s on closer to the date. They are open 5 days a  week (Wednesday to Sunday) from 11am until 5pm (excluding Christmas day, New Year’s Day and Good Friday. Check their website for full details).

Q: Where can I moor along the river?
A: There are mooring pontoons in front of the Renmark Club if you need to collect any supplies from town or stop in for a meal.
Wilkadene has a boat tie up area in front of the deck with stair access to the Brewery.
Otherwise just pull up to a sandbar somewhere along the river for a more secluded stop-off.

Q: Where can I get a map of the River?
A: The Renmark Paringa Tourist Center has a great selection of River maps. Otherwise all of
our boats have a River chart map for navigation of the channels.
